Creating Your First Account
How to add your bank accounts before importing data.
Creating accounts
Satsuma does not connect to your bank, so every account is created manually. You need at least one account before you can import CSV data or receive bank-alert emails.
How to add an account
- Go to Settings → Accounts
- Click Add Account
- Fill in the fields:
- Name — whatever you call it (e.g. "Chase Checking", "Amex Gold")
- Type — checking, savings, credit card, debit card, cash, loan, investment, or other
- Institution — your bank or card issuer (e.g. "Chase", "Bank of America")
- Last four digits — optional but important. Satsuma uses this to route incoming bank-alert emails to the right account
- Currency — defaults to your profile currency
- Opening balance — useful for manual cash accounts or when you want an accurate balance figure from day one
- Color — displayed on the dashboard
Account types that affect totals
The "Income" figure on your dashboard only counts credits on non-credit-card, non-debit accounts. Deposits to a checking or savings account count as income. Credits on a credit card account are treated as payments or refunds — not income.
Multiple accounts
You can add as many accounts as you want. CSV imports, bank-alert emails, and Gmail/Outlook scans can all be linked to different accounts.
